Febrrrruuuurrrarrry!!

Yeah so the February remix competition over at bmore-electro is Lil’ Mama - Lipgloss.

February is also turning out to be “write an album” month. This remix will be an integral part of the first cohesive Glassknife (new site launch soon) release. The goal with this release will be to try and define a bmorecore sound. Something be between Baltimore club music and the various ___core sounds that are around. This may be fruitless but will be fun nonetheless. One of my main problems with producing any sort of music that relies on acapella’s is that I don’t follow most popular music. The good part about this is that a lot of baltimore club music relies on cartoon, movie, and celeb sort of samples and there are ingrained cliches that can be easily make the tracks representative of the genre. Pushing it however, will prove to be difficult.

My inspiration for the Lip Gloss remix is the sound that Mathhead gets in his track “drop it” there’s a lot going on there, and it has a very bmore feel Baltimore club with bigger basslines and hyper edits will be challenging and tons of fun to make. Originally I started the remix with a junglist feel today, it worked, but to me it wasn’t pushing it , making jacked up crazy breakcore can be fun and is addictive, I can attest to that. Personally I have a hard time getting nice big basslines to fit well within a breakcore production between the gabber hits and the rapid bpms it becomes difficult to find space for the basslines.

This puts my February album idea into play, will I be able to continue this bmore feel for awhile, how can I get it to work well without getting boring? Stay tuned.
